The Fourth P: Using AI as Assistive Intelligence to Find Your Voice and Build Confidence
Can you believe we’ve been working through my 4P Method since July? We’ve covered a lot of ground together! Now that school has been back in session for a while, it reminds me of how a new school year begins. We review what we’ve learned, get organized, and introduce new information. Eventually, it’s time to put that learning to work!
Here we are in October. We’ve talked about our principles, made our plans, and prepared ourselves. Now it’s time to put those pencils down and put what we’ve learned into ACTION! Welcome to the fourth P: PRACTICE!
Practice Doesn’t Mean Perfect
Whether we’re speaking on camera, recording a podcast, writing a blog, or standing before an audience, we sometimes think we need everything figured out before we’re ready to share. But confidence often comes from repetition, familiarity, and discovering what works for us. We practice not to memorize every word, but to get comfortable with our message and express our thoughts naturally.
Your first attempt might feel awkward. You might stumble, lose your train of thought, or focus so hard on the script that you forget to enjoy the experience! That’s why we practice: to grow more comfortable communicating in our own voices. And you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Let AI Be Your Practice Partner
Last month, we talked about using AI as Assistive Intelligence. Rather than handing over our thinking, we can use it to organize our thoughts, explore ideas, and prepare for the work we want to accomplish. Now let’s put that concept into practice!
AI can help develop talking points, rehearse an interview, organize a story, or explore ways to communicate a message. Think of it as a practice partner that asks questions and helps you get ready to write, record, or speak. YOU remain the Creative Director of your message.
Three Free AI Tools to Help You Practice
1. ChatGPT: — Brainstorm ideas, organize talking points, or practice answering questions about your business and stories.
2. Google Gemini: — Explore a topic, develop practice interview questions, or organize a story into a beginning, middle, and end.
3. Microsoft Copilot: — Brainstorm ideas, simplify an explanation, or outline a video, podcast, presentation, or written piece.
All three offer free access with varying features and usage limits. You don’t need all of them. Choose one and give it a try!
Your October Practice Challenge
Choose something you know and enjoy talking about: your business, a family memory, a hobby, or something you’ve recently learned. Open your preferred AI tool and try this prompt:
“I’m practicing communicating my thoughts about [insert your topic]. Ask me three questions, one at a time, that will help me organize my ideas and explain my message naturally. Don’t write a script for me. Help me discover what I want to say in my own words.”
Once you’ve answered the questions, put the computer aside and put those ideas into action! Record a short video, speak into an audio recorder, write a few paragraphs, or practice delivering your message aloud. Don’t worry about perfection. This is your opportunity to become familiar with your message and grow more confident in your own voice.
Review what you created. Notice what worked, where your thoughts flowed naturally, and what you’d like to do differently. Choose one thing to improve and try again.
Create. Review. Adjust. Keep going.
That’s how practice becomes progress!
Let’s Put Those Four Ps to Work!
Principles gave you your foundation. Planning gave you direction. Preparation helped you get ready. Practice brings everything together.
Throughout October, we’ll explore simple ways to become more comfortable communicating our ideas, finding our natural voices, and sharing our stories with confidence. As your Creative Director and Video Storytelling Coach, I’m here to help you develop your message and share it with others. Whether you’re creating business videos, developing a podcast, or preserving family stories, I’d love to help bring your ideas to life.
